Best Baby Jumper for Your Active Baby

best baby jumper

Whether you call it an Exercauser, Jumparoo, or doorway jumper, they’re all pretty much the same contraption offering the same benefits to both parents and babies. A jumper is an apparatus, that when a baby is placed in the seat, allows a baby to use their legs to jump up and down by themselves. When choosing the best baby jumper for you and your family you’ll want to consider a few key item.

Why do babies like jumpers?

Babies LOVE jumpers because they love jumping. It also gives them the ability to explore and move. Before babies can crawl and walk, jumpers give them a sense of control and independence that they haven’t had before.

Jumpers also give babies a view of the world around them. If they’re not crawling or sitting up yet, they don’t often get long views of the world upright. A jumper gives them the ability to look around the room sitting up.

If you are using an activity center style jumper it’s even more fun. Being able to spin around and play with different toys will keep them entertained and active. That combined with jumping can lead to your baby squealing with joy.

Why do parents like jumpers?

Any new parent will know that time is limited with a baby in the house. Throw in a few more kids and there’s almost no time to do anything. A baby jumper or exercauser gives parents someplace safe to place the baby while keeping them entertained at the same time. These precious few minutes not needing to keep eyes and hands on their baby can mean prepping dinner, putting in a load of laundry, or taking a shower – a luxury!

And if you’ve noticed your child loves to be active and a real kinesthetic learner these are great options. It’s safe while giving your child an active outlet. Depending on the type you choose, they can also be engaging with an educational twist.

Types of Baby Jumpers

Safety Precautions when Using a Baby Jumpers

Baby jumpers are the safer alternative to the old baby walkers. While safer than the walkers of old, parents still need to ensure the safety of the apparatus before using it with their baby.

Always assemble according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If there are missing pieces or something isn’t matching up, reach out to them.
Babies like to explore, so keep harmful things out of baby’s way – strings that can cause strangulation, glass objects that can fall and break, objects on the ground that can get caught under their feet.
Don’t use the jumper once your child outgrows it. Placing a baby in a jumper that is too small can hurt your child. If the apparatus breaks someone can be hurt.

Health Concerns Associated with Jumpers

Many doctors don’t recommend use of jumpers or at least not prolonged use of jumpers. Because of the way the baby is seated in the jumping seat it keeps the baby’s hips in a less than optimal position for their development which isn’t recommended for long periods of time.

Additionally, with small babies, especially those in the 3 to 6 month range, they are still developing an understanding of themselves and the world around them. By cutting off their visibility to their feet they aren’t getting that visual input they need to make sense of the world around them.

But as many of us know with parenting choices and personal choices is that most things are safe in moderation. Occasional use or limited daily use is most likely not going to cause issues.

If there are any concerns you have or questions about whether it is safe to use one with your child, always consult with your pediatrician first.
